licence, together with the technical limits, administrative requirements and marketing conditions that attach to such devices. It sorts equipment into intentional radiators, which deliberately emit radio-frequency energy, unintentional radiators, which generate it internally or pass it by conduction to attached equipment, and incidental radiators such as DC motors or mechanical switches, which emit although never designed to. Operating outside these rules requires a licence, and operating or marketing a non-compliant device — including one lacking the prior equipment authorisation where that applies — is prohibited by statute.
