PSE marking
Japan's Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act regulates the manufacture, import and sale of electrical appliances and materials in order to
prevent hazards and disturbances. It reaches 457 items designated by Cabinet Order, split between 116 Specified items, treated as especially liable to cause harm, and 341 Non-Specified items. A notifying supplier must notify its business to the ministry, comply with the technical requirements and, for the Specified category, undergo conformity assessment by a ministry-registered conformity assessment body for each type classification, on top of the mandatory self-inspection. Only a supplier that has discharged those obligations may affix the PSE labelling, and without that labelling the sale or exhibition of the equipment is prohibited in Japan.
